National Garden Scheme Open Day

Come and join us on Sunday 2nd September when our beautiful garden will be open as part of the National Open Garden Scheme. We’ll be open between 11am and 4pm so take a stroll around the garden and enjoy light refreshments available throughout the day. Entry is £5 per adult (children go free). Our shop will be open and our gardens are designed for accessibility including wheelchair friendly pathways, raised vegetable and flower beds, sensory areas and quiet spaces.

The Therapy Garden is a registered charity that provides social and therapeutic horticulture to different groups in the local community. We are a 1 1/2 acre working garden offering a supportive learning environment within a calm and protective space where visitors are able to reconnect with nature and the outdoors.

We have a sensory area dedicated to providing a beautiful space where colour and fragrance are paramount, including a central water feature, a wildlife pond and the newly planted Waitrose Partnership Garden featuring spiral parterre style planting. Our vegetable gardens are planted with a range of produce every year including brassicas, legumes, root vegetables, soft fruit and a small, fledgling orchard.

The garden is wheelchair friendly with hand-built raised flower and vegetable beds and a series of heated poly tunnels and dedicated propagation equipment. Our on-site shop supplies a wide variety of bedding plants, seedlings, hanging baskets and more, all grown on-site and we are also able to stock the shop with a wide variety of our home-grown fruit and vegetables, as well as cards and gifts produced on-site.

Late last year we acquired a half acre extension to our plot which we are in the process of incorporating into the garden. This new land was originally scrubland, thick with brambles, weed and roots, and we are working through the process of restoring it to cultivatable condition. The team of volunteers who assist at The Therapy Garden were very proud to have been awarded the Queens Award for Volunteering in 2017.
